NeuraGrowth shipped a card game. Here is the honest thread that connects watercolor flashcards, developer playbooks and a tavern Skat table, and why the same three rules apply to all of them: buy once, no dark patterns, one person signs off.

/ TL;DR

NeuraGrowth now publishes its own games. The first is Grand Skat, a classic card game you can play free in your browser. It looks like a detour from flashcards and dev guides. It is not. All three follow the same three rules: buy once and own it, no ads or subscriptions or nagging, and one person decides whether it ships.

/ THE PLOT TWIST

A flashcards shop shipped a card game

If you have followed NeuraGrowth for the watercolor flashcards or the developer playbooks, a card game about Skat probably reads as a hard left turn. It is a fair reaction. Bilingual decks for kids, Claude Code field guides for solo developers, and a green-felt tavern table are not an obvious product line.

But the through-line was there the whole time, and shipping a game is what made it obvious to me too. So this is the brand post that connects the dots, because if the range looks random from the outside, that is my job to explain, not yours to guess.

/ THE THREAD

Make the thing you wish already existed

Every NeuraGrowth product started as a private complaint. The flashcards exist because the photocopied sets from the corner shop were thin and monolingual. The dev guides exist because most blog templates are abandoned the week after they ship. Grand Skat exists because good digital Skat, the game half my family plays, was either ad-choked, subscription-gated, or just ugly.

That is the thread. Not a category, not an audience segment, a method. Find something you actually use, notice where the existing version disrespects your time or your money, and build the version you wish you could have bought. A flashcard deck and a card game are the same act done in two mediums.

/ WHAT IT IS

Grand Skat, in one paragraph

Grand Skat is classic Skat, the national card game of Germany and Silesia, set in a warm tavern: green felt, candlelight, collectible decks and a live bidding voice-over that makes every table feel loud in a good way. There is a 7-lesson tutorial that teaches the game from your first trick, a coach that replays your hands and shows what the strongest bot would have done, and online tables for playing with actual people. It runs in your browser for free and there is a full edition on PC.

/ THE RULES DO NOT CHANGE

Same three promises, new medium

The reason a game belongs under the same brand as a flashcard PDF is that it obeys the same rules I refuse to break on any product.

  • Buy once, own it. The full PC edition is a single purchase. No season pass, no energy timers, no coins to top up. Exactly like a flashcard deck you print as many times as you want.
  • No dark patterns. No ads, no subscription, no microtransactions, no nagging you to rate it before you have played it. The free browser version is a real game, not a demo built to frustrate you into paying.
  • One person signs off. The same yes-or-no gate that decides whether a cover ships decides whether a feature ships. If it feels rushed, it waits. There is one inbox, and the person reading it is the person who built the thing.

/ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

A studio, not a niche

Practically, this means NeuraGrowth is better described as a small studio than a printables shop. The flashcards keep coming. The developer guides keep coming. And now games are part of the range, with more than one title already in the works.

If you are here for the kids decks or the dev playbooks, nothing you rely on goes away. If you play cards, there is now a table with your name on it. And if you just like watching a solo studio ship real things without dark patterns, that is the whole show, and games are simply the newest act.
